On the first day, dawn lasted forever
Olympus like the twilight of the gods.
No telling the time between night and day —
Only a slow, slow illumination until there was enough light to see
But not enough to see too far —
The world stayed small that day.
Only Olympus mattered—
Only Olympus existed.
Day came with twilight
A cloud break
Today dawn broke in with a lover’s word and admonition
A moment so brittle it could only be memory
Then the blooming of the mandarin glow
Into cream and a ray then an angel over the shoulder
Of a new, ancient herald of a far older God.
